BDRS/RBC Double Reed Festival May 2023

Sunday 14 May 2023

Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, 200 Jennens Rd, BIRMINGHAM B4 7XR

INNOVATIVE ~ INFORMATIVE ~ EXCITING ~ INCLUSIVE

What more could you want from a fabulous day of all things double reed?

We’re very pleased to be presenting this event, in partnership with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, especially as it will be the first live BDRS Event of 2023!

We’re very grateful to the RBC for hosting this event – all attendees are in for a treat, with the chance to enjoy the remarkable facilities of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire together with the exciting array of activities planned for the day.

The Festival will feature double reed musicians from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, many of whom are also musicians of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. There will be a concert featuring a selection of the RBC students and staff (some of whom we heard at our Double Reed Discovery Day in Leicester last September).

In addition to a concert, there will be performance classes, opportunities to play in chamber ensembles and a mass play-together as well as a wide range of instruments and accessories on offer from various traders.

Activities to include:

  • Mass play-together;
  • Reed Doctor sessions – troubleshooting issues with reeds and advice on reed adjusting and making;
  • Sessions on technique and other aspects of performance, including health and wellbeing;
  • Tutored oboe, bassoon, and mixed ensembles;
  • Teachers’ Forum – an opportunity for teachers to discuss and share ideas as well as new approaches and repertoire for the double-reed instruments.
