The BDRS is delighted to have appointed Krista Gallagher as our new Events Producer, and we’re hugely looking forward to working with her!
“I started playing bassoon after primary school and continued through my studies at Queen’s University Belfast where I was a member of the symphony orchestra whilst doing my BMus degree and Masters in Music Technology.
“After graduating I started teaching as a woodwind tutor with the Northern Ireland Education Authority, and have been doing so for the last 24 years whilst completing a part-time MSc in Arts Management. An important part of my teaching is now the To Bassoon and Beyond project which was developed to boost numbers of students taking up the Bassoon as part of the Endangered Instruments of the Orchestra Scheme. This project is run as a partnership between the NI Education Authority Music Service and the Ulster Orchestra and was awarded the Classic FM Best Learning Initiative of the year in 2023 in the Music Teacher of the Year awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.
“I have organised a few Double Reed days in Northern Ireland in an attempt to support local players both school-age and amateur. I am an avid amateur player myself as a member of the Studio Symphony Orchestra (and occasional deputy player with the Ulster Orchestra) so I know how important these days are.
“I have also worked in the Music Department of Queen’s University for the last six years, initially as Student Recruitment Officer and now as the Performance Programme Co-ordinator for the five music degree courses and administrative support for the Sonorities Contemporary Music Festival.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the BDRS and look forward to planning lots of fun and informative Double Reed days.”
